DW and I who would want to rent and take a boat @ WL and go around the lake, how long would it take to go all around the lake, how long to MK and back, and which of the boats would be ideal sea raycer, montauck, pr pontoon differences? Advance res needed?

    Hi Nicholas!

    This is a great question!

Based on my experience, you really don't have to make a reservation up front.  I've rented boats all of the time at the Wilderness Lodge and there has always been plenty.  In my opinion, there are really two choices:
    • Sea Raycer
    • Pontoon

The Sea Raycers are more fun, in my opinion, but it would be really hard to get two adults into one.  I have only done it with a child and there isn't a lot of extra room when it is just one adult and a child.  I think you would have more fun if each of you had your own boat.  The pontoon boat, on the other hand, is much larger and thus the two of you could go together.

The smallest amount of time to rent a Sea Raycer is 30 minutes, but that isn't a lot of time if you want to leave Bay Lake and enter the Seven Seas Lagoon.  If you want to head to the Magic Kingdom and back then I definitely suggest planning on an hour on the water; if you want to be more relaxes and also explore the area around the Polynesian Resort and the Grand Floridian then I would plan on 90 minutes.

This is definitely a fun activity outside of the parks.  Both of my children absolutely want to do it on every trip to Walt Disney World!
