We are going to DW in Nov. we will be staying at the Shades of Green. We want to have a down day and do some of the recreational activities at the Fort Wilderness. Can we rent a golf cart for the day, if not staying at the Fort Wilderness? Thanks

Hi Randy! Fort Wilderness is a wonderful place to spend some down time while on vacation at Walt Disney World.

At this time there are no rules in place that prevent an outside guest from coming in to rent a golf cart of the day. However, they are currently in discussion to change this rule where only Fort Wilderness registered guests will be allowed to rent the carts. There is such a huge demand for these guests and often there are not enough carts to go around so they have had to look at this change in the rules.  They do not know when this is going to be in effect so it's best to call before you head over there thinking you will have a golf cart at your disposal for the day.

Fort Wilderness has a great internal bus system you can use if you do not have a cart. It will take you from the front of the resort to the lake side marina with stops in between if you choose to rent a canoe at the bike barn or fishing gear.  At the marina you can rent the fun little water sprites, reserve a private fishing excursion, or rent a pontoon for an hour or so. In the marina area you will find Trails End restaurant which has great breakfast and dinner buffets and menu lunch offerings. Nearby is the Disney stables where the park horses and Cinderella's ponies call home. You are welcome to enter the stables to see some of the many majestic horses and enjoy the small museum and old calliope.

In the evening check out Chip and Dale's Campfire Singalong followed by a movie under the stars or reserve dinner at Hoop Dee Doo which is one of the longest running shows at Disney. Mickey's Backyard Barbecue is also home in the Fort and it also requires pre reservations. If you are still there after dark consider watching the Magic Kingdom fireworks and the Electric Water Parade from the beach.

Complimentary boats will carry you to the Magic Kingdom or the Wilderness and Contemporary resorts. It is sure to be a full and fun day!
