We are going to DW in December, can you tell me what to expect for "extra" Christmas celebrations and roughly when they would be announced? Extra costs? I am curious as to what to watch out for. And any tips on them would be great. Thanks!

Hi Alisha! The holiday time is one of my favorite times at Walt Disney World. I usually try to book a long weekend every year so I can enjoy the festivities.

One of my "must do" holiday events is the Candlelight Processional held in Epcot three times an evening beginning the day after Thanksgiving through the New Year. It is the story of the holiday through narration and music. You can add a dining package to this which I recommend. Dates and narrators are usually announced in the summer months and then plan on booking your dinner package at the 180 day date.

Another popular holiday tradition is Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party in the Magic Kingdom. You will find festive partying throughout the park as well as cookies offered to all the guests. The parade and fireworks that evening are spectacular and with the snow falling on Main Street you surely will be put into a holiday mood. The dates for this event are generally announced around April or May. Tickets can then be purchased.

There are also several wonderful tours offered at the holiday time. You can visit backstage areas and learn how Disney makes their parks more magical with all the decorations that mysteriously just happen.

Be sure and visit the resorts during the holidays especially the deluxe category ones. There is the large gingerbread house in the Grand Floridian, the chocolate carrousel in the Beach Club, and the train set up in the Yacht Club to name a few. The Fort Wilderness campers put out remarkable decorations and it is worth an evening visit. While you are there be sure and book a sleigh ride!

The great Osborne Lights will not be up again in Hollywood Studios but maybe Disney will surprise us with something special for this year. Keep your eyes on the website and the Disney Parks Blog for updated information and prices. Whatever you choose to do it will be a wonderful holiday for you and your family.
