With DVC, when you purchase, say, 180 points at AK Villas, are these points equivalent to 180 points at another DVC property, cruise, etc.? Why are the points more expensive at some home resorts than others? Is it difficult to get stays at non-home resorts

    Hi Kim,

I can tell by your questions that you are seriously interested in becoming a Disney Vacation Club Member!

If you purchase with Disney's Animal Kingdom Villas as your home resort, you can use the Disney Vacation Club points you purchase there toward stays at other Disney Vacation Club Resorts, for vacations in the Disney Collection such as on Disney Cruise Line, for Adventures by Disney Vacations, many more through exchanges with RCI, and many other options.

One of the advantages of choosing a home resort that you truly love is that you have an eleven-month booking window for your home resort.  You can book vacations up to eleven months ahead of time at your home resort.  For other Disney Vacation Club resorts, you can book up to seven months ahead of time, so it can be a little more challenging to book those, especially at busy times of year such as December holidays.  However, it is definitely possible - my home resort is Disney's BoardWalk Villas, but I have stayed at all seven Disney Vacation Club properties at Walt Disney World!

Each accommodation has a nightly points requirement that may vary by resort, just like a hotel room rate would vary depending on location, size, amenities, and a number of attributes.  If you want to know more about the actual costs of a Disney Vacation Club Membership, I suggest that you contact a Disney Vacation Club Representative at 1-877-382-7826.

I hope that this information helps with your decision, Kim. If you do decide to join the Disney Vacation Club, it will be truly magical the first time you hear those words, "Welcome home."
