Ahoy there, Mary Jo!
Welcome to planDisney and thank you so much for sailing by with your question. Mary Jo, it sounds like you are dreaming about sailing to the great wide somewhere using your Disney Vacation Club Points. Well, I am excited to share that with the flexibility of Disney Vacation Club Membership, you most certainly can use Disney Vacation Club Points toward a Disney Cruise Line cruise. In fact, our family set sail on the high seas last year with the help of our DVC Points, and my parents have used their Vacation Points for Disney cruises to Alaska, the Caribbean, and on the Panama Canal.
First, I recommend visiting the Disney Vacation Club website and going to the "Destinations" tab. Click on
"Disney Cruise Line" and then click the blue button that says
"View All Points Charts." From here, you can click on a sailing that interests you and check out the Vacation Points cost per person for the type of sailing and stateroom that interests you. Once you are ready, Mary Jo, call Member Services who can convert your Vacation Points into Reservation Points and make the Disney Cruise Line reservation for you. The
Member Services Cast Members are like Fairy Godparents who wave their magic wands to make your vacation dreams come true!
Now, if you don't have enough Vacation Points to cover the entire cost of the cruise, you can use
Banked or
Borrowed Vacation Points. But, you can also do a combination of
cash and Reservation Points. The one thing to note is that at least one person must be paid in full by Reservation Points. You just can't split one individual's cost with Reservation Points and cash. We just did this for our trip and used Reservation Points to pay for one member of our party and paid with cash and a Disney Gift Card for the rest. This is why I say Member Services is magical - they took all of these ingredients and with a Bibbidy Bobbidy Boo, made our dreams come true.
Additionally, I should note that when making the booking, you will be charged a $95 transaction fee (subject to change) for making this transaction. However, this fee is waived if you are part of the new
Membership Magic Beyond option for eligible Disney Vacation Club Members.
Mary Jo, I am so excited for you to use your Vacation Points for a Disney cruise because adventure is out there! I hope this helps you create the voyage of your dreams. But if you have any further Disney Vacation Club questions, sail back here to see me and I'll be happy to help you.
Bon Voyage,
Keri
