We are DVC members and our home resort is Beach Club. If we buy more points at a different hotel can we use all the points at a home resort. E.g. 150pts beach club and 50pts BLT, book at Beach club for 200 pts at 11 months out?

    Hello, Jeff!

    This is a great question!

When Disney Vacation Club Members buy additional points at a Disney Vacation Club Resort other than their original home resort, they can use those points to book vacations at any Disney Vacation Club Resort, but only at the 7 month window. The 11 month window only applies to those points which are attached to your home resort.

We try to get around this by booking at our home resort at our 11 month window, using as many of those home resort points as we need to, and then book the remainder of our trip at the 7 month window. The trick is to book the portion of the trip which you think might be the most popular (and, thus, harder to get at the 7 month window,) For example, if you are booking over a holiday, it may be harder to get a reservation the nights before and after the holiday, as well as the holiday itself, so book those at the 11 month window. If you're concerned that you won't have a place to stay on those other nights, as you wait for your 7 month window, you can book a back up reservation for those additional days at your other resort. This comes with a little risk, however, should the back up reservation actually cost more points than the one you'd like to secure eventually. Before you book any DVC trip, be sure to ask the Cast Member booking for you via Member Services for all of the specifics about how you're using your points on each particular trip. You can find more information, too, at dvcmember.com.  Just log in and look for "Vacation Planning" for more information.
