Hi Heather,
Pool hopping is a great perk offered to Disney Vacation Club Members. You can check out the pools at other Disney Vacation Club resorts and Walt Disney World resort hotels and relax the day away all over Walt Disney World property.
There are some caveats to the pool hopping benefit. If a pool is at capacity or reaches capacity, you may be asked to leave so that guests at that resort can enjoy the pool. Pool hopping is never allowed at Bay Cove Pool at Bay Lake Tower at Disney's Contemporary Resort, Uzima Pool and Samawati Springs Pool at Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge, Stormalong Bay at Disney's Yacht and Beach Club, the leisure pool at Disney's Beach Club, and the pools at Disney's Art of Animation. There are blackout dates during which you cannot pool hop. A list of blackout dates for pool hopping available in Portable Perks, which you can find online at the
Disney Vacation Club member website. Simply log in and go to the "member extras" drop down menu and select "perks and discounts". From there you can download a copy of the current Portable Perks. Pool hopping information can also in Disney Files Magazine. In the Spring 2013 edition of Disney Files, pool hopping information is on page 14.
You asked about your home resort. Your home resort does not impact if you can pool hop to a certain pool. For instance, if your home resort is Bay Lake Tower at Disney's Contemporary Resort, but you are staying at Disney's BoardWalk Villas this trip, you cannot pool hop to Bay Cove Pool at Bay Lake Tower on this trip.
I hope that this information helps, Heather! Have a great time pool hopping, and please do not hesitate to ask if you have any further questions about your upcoming Disney Vacation Club trip!
