During which months have you camped at Fort Wilderness? My husband is a teacher so no matter when we go it will be crowded, but we would be able to stay longer in the summer. How many days would you suggest for such a camping trip? We have a Pop-up with a/c

    Sharon:

    A fellow camper!

We've camped at the Fort in the months of April, October, and December.  We usually avoid the summer simply because of the heat in Florida--and we get plenty of it here in South Mississippi!   If you during summer, you'll be glad you've got A/C!

It's difficult to get a campsite around the week of July 4th but if you plan early enough you can get a site around that popular holiday.  (And participate in the golf cart parade!)  If there are no openings for the dates you want, try calling back.  There are usually cancellations.  You just have to be persistent.

We've stayed as little as one night to 8 nights.  I must say the week-long trip was the best, especially because we choose to decorate our campsite.  (For Halloween, we brought a hay bale and pumpkins, and one Christmas we hung lights.)   You'll find weekend campers from the surrounding local area to snowbirds who stay for a month at a time!  So, if you have the time, and because you are coming from such a long distance, I would stay as long as you can.  We've taken trips where we didn't visit the theme parks--there's just so much to enjoy at the Fort!

    Wishing you a magical vacation!

Meet the Panelist: Whitney, Mississippi

My family of 6 appreciates Disney's value! Although Ft. Wilderness is our second home, we've enjoyed the resorts for business, reunions and romantic getaways. For me, Disney also means dining: last count, I'd eaten at 55 restaurants around the World! Learn More About Whitney
