During hot days, when is the best time for sugar treats

    Hi Marlo! Welcome to planDisney.

I LOVE this question! I am basically Vanellope Von Schweetz - I have a serious sweet tooth and it gets even sweeter when I'm at the Walt Disney World Resort. While I could EASILY tell you "every time is sugar time" during a Disney visit (and I would mean it!), I have also experienced the energy slumps that come with very hot Disney days, and I'm happy to share some thoughts.

Because we do love to eat and drink ALL the salty and sugary snacks, my family arrives at Walt Disney World with a game plan. We stay hydrated by bringing refillable water bottles in our backpacks and make a point to stop and drink regularly. Water bottle refill stations and drinking fountains can be found throughout the theme parks (hint: look outside restroom entrances), and free ice water is available at Quick-Service dining locations. We also stock our resort hotel room with groceries so we can have protein-rich breakfasts and snacks - nuts, peanut butter sandwiches, cheese strings, and yogurt tubes are great for keeping us feeling good.

Now let's talk about sugar treats! For me, nothing beats a DOLE Whip for breakfast on a Disney vacation. I like to use Mobile Ordering in the My Disney Experience app to order a pineapple and coconut swirl mid-morning (that combo is currently available at Aloha Isle at Magic Kingdom Park, but availability may change). It's fruit, so it's breakfast, right? On hot days, a tangy DOLE Whip is so refreshing.

At EPCOT, my go-to sugary treat is the caramel popcorn at Karamell-Kuche in the Germany Pavilion. It's sweet and delicious, but also fiber-packed. My daughter and I sometimes share a caramel apple too - but sit down and enjoy that in the shade, because it can get sticky on hot days. Drink a big bottle of water with your caramel afternoon snack and voila! You've got balance.

In the evenings, I think there is nothing quite like a big bag of cotton candy or a Mickey rice krispie treat. If you're enjoying Magic Kingdom Park's fireworks, stop by the Main Street Confectionery to select the perfect Disney sweet treat to enjoy while you wait for the show to begin.

Marlo, I could go on and on about sugary treats, but I've got a rumbly in my tumbly! Be sure to read the Disney Parks Blog's Foodie Guides to learn about all the delicious sweet treats, salty snacks, and delectable food and drinks available all around the Walt Disney World Resort. I keep a list on my phone, organized by location, of all the must-eats so I never miss an opportunity to say "yum!" With a little balance and planning, you can enjoy sugary pixie dust and still feel full of energy and ready to take on "the world!"

Have so much fun planning, and please come back and see us if you have any further questions. It's truly a treat to help you plan your magical vacation!

Wishing you the sweetest Disney visit,
    Robyn
