Due to the nature of my job I am trying to figure out which type of reservation would work best if I had to cancel on short notice (betw. 2-44 days prior). If I reserve a package, am I only out $200 but otherwise refunded for both the room AND tickets?

    Hi Beverly,

Welcome to the Disney Parks Moms Panel! You have a very good question about the different types of reservations available at Walt Disney World. The good news is that you have more than one product in which to choose to fit your vacation style.

There are 2 main ways to make Disney Resort hotel accommodation reservations. The first is a vacation package.  With a vacation package you are booking your hotel, tickets, and optional dining plan. Vacation packages require $200 deposit with the balance due 45 days prior to check-in. You may cancel or change your package reservation without penalty up until 45 days in advance of your vacation. If you cancel between 2 and 44 days prior to check-in, you are subject to a $200 cancellation fee and the remainder of your payment will be refunded to you. If you cancel 1 day or less in advance, the full package price is nonrefundable.

The second option is to make a "room only" reservation at one of the Disney Resort hotels. These reservations do not include theme park tickets, dining plan, or other package entitlements and require a deposit equal to 1 night's room rate with the remainder due upon check-in to your hotel. You may change or cancel these reservations without penalty up until 5 days prior to check in (6 days if your reservation was made online). A nice feature about room-only reservations is that they can be converted to a package under most circumstances.

In your case I recommend making room only reservations for your upcoming vacation. This will give you the most flexibility and ensure that you have reserved the Disney Resort hotel that you most desire. Once your vacation plans are firm, you may see if converting to a vacation package is advantageous to you.

Please let me know if you have any further questions, I am always happy to help!
