Welcome back to the Disney Parks Moms Panel, Katie!
We are counting down the DAYS until
Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge officially opens at the Walt Disney World Resort, and I am so ready to visit Black Spire Outpost. I don’t know what I’m going to do first: sip on blue milk, shop for galactic curiosities in the marketplace, or head straight to the Millennium Falcon and “punch it!”
I have heard amazing reports about
Droid Depot. It’s an industrial workshop filled with spare parts, chips, manuals, and other odds and ends that can be used to build a working BB-series or R-series astromech droid. Consulting a blueprint, you’ll choose the parts to totally customize your droid as you visit the various stations in the depot – and, at the end, you’ll be given a remote and bring your droid to life. C-3PO and I are basically soulmates, so I’m excited to build my very own R2 unit!
Katie, I’m no Anakin Skywalker, but it’s my understanding that the droids you build in the Droid Factory station at
Star Wars Trading Post are smaller and more like action figures, where
the Droid Depot droids are life-sized and functional. My kiddos loved the Droid Factory when we visited Star Wars Trading Post last winter – as you can see in this Disney Parks Blog post,
they’re kind of like LEGO droids, and you can even add Mickey Mouse ear hats to them! It’s a fun experience, but totally different from the immersive droid-building at Droid Depot.
I’ve also heard that the droids built at Droid Depot will be able to
interact with other droids and features around Batuu. I think we’re still waiting to hear more about this functionality, but if you build a droid, I’m sure the technicians in the workshop can give you all the details and help set it up. If you’d like to visit Droid Depot on your upcoming visit to Walt Disney World, I recommend making a reservation for the experience.
I hope you have an amazing Outer Rim adventure at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, and throughout the Walt Disney World Resort!
May The Force Be With You,
Robyn
