    Driving down, not sure of arrival time so planning 1st day at pool, Downtown Disney, taking it all in. What is good to see/do at Downtown Disney area for 5 and 9 y.o or is it mostly restaurants? Other ideas for day if not parks? Staying at POR. Thanks!

    Hi Gena,

    You have a fabulous idea about spending your first day exploring your Resort hotel and the Downtown Disney Area.  Since you will be staying at Disney's Port Orleans - Riverside Resort hotel you have access to very convenient and scenic Boat transportation to Downtown Disney.

    If this is your first visit to the Downtown Disney Area you are in for a special treat.  This area has shopping, dining, movies, bowling, Cirque Du Soleil shows, DisneyQuest Indoor Interactive Theme Park, a Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique, Characters In Flight hot air balloon rides, nightly DJ dance parties, and so much more.  I have four children ranging in age from 5 to 16 and they all love the dining, shopping, entertainment and activities at Downtown Disney.  There is literally something for everybody in your family.

    My children who are similar in ages to yours particularly enjoy visiting The LEGO Store, Once Upon A Toy, and Disney's Candy Cauldron.  My own favorite stops are Basin, Marketplace Co-Op, World of Disney, and Ghirardelli Ice Cream & Chocolate Shop.  There are so many fun and inviting things to do and see you can spend a full day enjoying the offerings along the Downtown Disney Promenade.

    Here is a link for a full description of the shopping, entertainment, dining, and special events located in the Downtown Disney Area.  The Downtown Disney Area is currently being expanded and will be transitioned into Disney Springs in the future.  Due to the construction and limited parking I definitely recommend for you to use your Resort transportation instead of driving your car this visit.
