We're driving from the Chicago area, so we'll have a car on our first trip to WDW next month. Staying at WL. Will take the boat to & from MK; do you recommend Disney's buses or our own vehicle for the other parks? Will be doing evening EMHs. Thx!

Hi, Krista! We usually drive to Orlando from Alabama, and we enjoy having our car there. You are definitely right to take the boat to the Magic Kingdom from Wilderness Lodge. That is going to be your quickest and most direct route. However, for the rest of the parks, I suggest driving -- especially if you happen to have a handicap parking pass or a AAA Diamond Lot parking pass. Of course, you can only get a blue handicapped parking pass from your state's transportation department. (When we travel with my mother, we take their car to the parks since they have that parking pass for her.)

You can obtain a AAA parking pass by either purchasing a package through your local AAA office, or you can sometimes find them online. We've been really impressed with how close the lots are to the front gates, and we enjoy avoiding the wait for the buses. Yet, sometimes the time it takes to take a bus to a Disney resort versus taking a tram to your parking lot and then a car, can be a toss up. We have actually raced each other -- 1/2 of the family takes the family car and 1/2 of the family takes Disney transportation. I think it's been an even split on who has won!

Have a wonderful day and a magical vacation!
