Hiya John!
Welcome to planDisney, the most magical place on the internet! I am so glad that you came to us with your magical question today, and I am thrilled to be a part of your vacation. I have recently been able to bring my own car to the Walt Disney World Resort, and it truly makes such a big difference! While I do miss not having to find my car at the end of a long park day, I do love not having to wait for the complimentary Resort buses.
I see that you are a planning pro, John! Firstly, Bear Island Road is a private street used by Cast Members or other service officers, which means you would not be able to use it to stop at the Walt Disney World Speedway near Magic Kingdom Park. Indeed, by making a quick search on the internet, you will see that a gate blocks off the street at its intersection with Western Way. These gates enforce Cast Member-only areas. However, there are plenty of different ways to get to this specific Speedway gas station, and depending on the time you are driving, there typically isn't much traffic (besides after fireworks). Second, the parking lot near the Wedding Pavilion at the Disney Grand Floridian Resort and Spa is reserved for Guests of the Resort and Guests with valid day parking.
Complimentary day parking is available to Guests enjoying select dining, shopping, entertainment, and recreation experiences. Therefore, you would not be able to use it as day parking without a reservation. However, the Transportation and Ticket Center has
monorails and
buses going to the different Resorts if you would like to try their unique offerings!
Now, John, although I do not know when your next visit will be, I hope you will plan a visit in time for the 50th-anniversary celebrations! Indeed, all theme parks have lit up the night with their
EARidescent park icons. Seeing Spaceship Earth lit up might be one of my favourite sights, and I love that they come to life with animations and music with themed shows during the different EPCOT festivals. Currently, you can see Spaceship Earth join Pocahontas in celebrating the Colors of the Wind, an experience that I would highly recommend. Also in honour of the
World's Most Magical Celebration are the new nighttime spectaculars
Disney Enchantment and
Harmonious. Found at Magic Kingdom Park and EPCOT, respectively, these shows have quickly become some of my personal favourites with their impressive projections and fan-favourite characters. All in all, the 50th anniversary is a celebration you will not want to miss!
I hope this was helpful, John, and that you and your family will have the best day ever on your next Disney vacation. If you have any other questions in the time leading up to your visit, please don't hesitate to reach out. We are always happy to help, and you're as welcome as can be!
Have a magical day,
Ariane
