Hiya, Jeanne. Welcome to
planDisney! Thanks for bringing this question to us. I’m happy to clarify the drinking age policy.
The clear answer is that the drinking age on
Disney Cruises is 21, with only a few exceptions. Ships that sail from a European country with a lower drinking age give parents the option to sign a waiver to allow their children aged 18 - 20 to partake in the presence of their parents.
The other exception occurs on round-trip cruises from Sydney, Melbourne, Auckland, Brisbane, and Singapore. Since the drinking age is 18 in these countries, the drinking age on the ship is 18. This means your 18-year-old could purchase their own alcoholic beverages with or without you, and does not need a consent form. For cruises that reposition the ship from Hawai’i to Australia, the 18 to 20-year-olds must have a consent form signed, similar to the European cruise policy described above.
This means that for your Alaskan cruise, the drinking age is 21.
But don’t fret, you’re still on a
Disney cruise! There are all manner of fun activities. Be sure to encourage your 18 to 20-year-old cruisers to attend all of the events for the
1820 Society, which is a meet-up of that age group organized by the crew’s entertainment team. They’ll gather the 18 to 20-year-olds and figure out how they’d like to spend their time and organize activities for them. This might be trivia gatherings, group lunches, sports, and more. Also, remember that your 18+ cruisers have access to the
adult-only areas on deck, which tend to be much calmer than the all-ages area.
Jeanne, I hope you have a magical trip aboard the Wonder. Feel free to sail back to
planDisney with more questions.
Have a magical day.
Corey
