Can you drink in the Bahamas off the ship in Nassau at the age of 18?

    Ahoy, Ayla!

Welcome aboard planDisney! It sounds like you’re charting a course to explore the beautiful beaches of the Bahamas—and a relaxing Disney cruise is the perfect vessel for adventure.

When it comes to sipping something spirited at sea, Disney Cruise Line requires Guests to be at least 21 years old to purchase or consume alcoholic beverages onboard the ship and while visiting Castaway Cay or Lookout Cay. However, there are a few exceptions where the drinking age policy adjusts based on local laws and itinerary:

    • On round-trip cruises departing from European ports or repositioning cruises between Hawaii and Australia, Guests 18 to 20 years old may be allowed to drink alcohol with a signed Beverage Consent Form from a parent or guardian, and only when the parent or guardian is present.

    • On round-trip cruises from Singapore, Australia, or New Zealand, Guests 18 and older can drink without parental consent, in alignment with local laws.

But since you’ll be sailing to Nassau, here’s the good news: the legal drinking age in the Bahamas is 18, which means you can enjoy a beverage ashore—as long as you follow local laws and consume responsibly. Just remember: the tropical heat can be intense, and dehydration plus alcohol doesn’t mix well. You’ll also want to be fully ready and alert when it’s time to head back to the ship—no one wants to be that Guest racing down the dock like Kuzco dodging Yzma!

Also keep in mind that some Port Adventures involving alcohol, such as wine tastings or mixology experiences, may still be restricted to those 21 and over, even in countries where the legal age is lower. When in doubt, check the fine print on your Port Adventure listings.

Even if the onboard drinking age doesn’t work in your favor just yet, the adult-exclusive offerings onboard are still nothing short of enchanting. Whether you're sipping mocktails at the Cove Café, lounging at the Quiet Cove Pool, or laughing along at an adults-only show in the evening (if offered), there’s plenty of grown-up fun to go around—no fairy godmother required.

I hope this helps as you prepare for your magical getaway! May your sea days sparkle like Ariel’s treasure trove, and your port days be packed with just the right blend of sun, sand, and swashbuckling memories.

Sea ya real soon with a June full of sun, sea, and shipshape adventures,
    Dustin
