Why hello there Yao Jia, I'd like to wish you a very warm Canadian welcome to planDisney!
When it comes to meeting and greeting some of our famous friends at Disney destinations around the world, I consider myself to be a bit of a connoisseur of
Character Experiences. In my previous Disney Cast Member life, I spent a considerable amount of time hanging out with our favourite pals and have definitely experienced my share of various trinkets and tidbits, cards and plush toys as well as heartfelt handmade tokens that have been presented by guests over the years! I chatted with some Cast Members from the world of Entertainment and here's some of their helpful tips that I can share:
- Folks and families from all over the world have come bearing all kinds of gifts when they come to Character Greetings on land and at sea, and the practice does seem to be a little more prevalent over at Tokyo Disney Resort and Disneyland Resort among their regular guests.
- Generally while you can present or show the Character you're meeting what you have brought them, the Character Attendant (typically dressed in a distinctly bright berry-blue outfit) who is with them will accept the item on their behalf. As long as these things aren't perishable like food items or of any monetary value, many Character friends have been known to keep these treasured mementos like drawings and cards alike to look back on later - sometimes for many years afterward!
- A good rule of thumb is to always let the Cast Members helping out each Character know that you'd like to give them something beforehand. In a Character Dining setting, the Character Attendants or an Entertainment leader may be around to accept these postcard drawings that you have made so be sure to ask your server to point them out to you. It's always a good idea to show the Characters what you've drawn for them first, as it's really a great opportunity for them to show their appreciation for your creativity and generosity!
I hope that this helps, Yao Jia! It's absolutely wonderful that you've thought about crafting these and bringing them along with you on your Disney adventures; I also highly recommend checking out the
EPCOT International Festival of the Arts to connect with fellow creative minds. I hope that you come back again to planDisney for any other tips or advice from my fellow Canadian pals
Nilson and
Candace and I think it's the spirit of folks like you who keep Walt Disney's legacy alive by sharing your creative talents and making magic for others in small ways!
Wishing you all the best on your upcoming Character postcard quest!
