is there a dress code at disney, i have heard that you cannot wear tank tops...is this true?

As long as tank tops cover the parts that they're supposed to cover, then you're welcome to wear them to the theme parks. You can read the official statement from Disney on theme park dress on their website HERE. As you see, there is no prohibition against tank tops.

What you may be thinking of is the dress code for some of the restaurants at WDW. A handful of the most upscale restaurants at Disney World do have a more restrictive dress code that mentions tank tops. You can see this expanded dress code at the bottom of the website listing for the restaurant Artist Point, found HERE. This policy does state that tank tops are not allowed at the signature dining venues. However, my personal experience in that situation has been that if a woman is wearing a dressy tank top that is well coordinated with a skirt or capri-style pants and dressy shoes, then she'll be fine. Tank tops for men are more frowned upon at the signature restaurants.
