DP for 2 ads, 2 (5,6) kids. Is this really worth the $? Counter Svc is roughly $35 for a fam of 4 & table svc about $50, but plan comes out to $100/day-I need to be wise as I may try to a argue hotel upgrade instead from POFQ to AKL. Would hotel outway

I really wouldn't recommend upgrading your resort room because you're choosing not to go with the meal plan.  Even if the meal plan doesn't make sense for your family, you will still need to pay for meals.

When deciding on whether or not to get a meal plan, consider how your family eats at home when you go to a restaurant.  If your kids normally split one kid's meal, if you order an appetizer for your dinner entree, and if you always skip dessert, than the plan might not work best for you.  Also consider snacks throughout the day.  The plans would allow for snacks.  Here again, your family can just refill water bottles from the drinking fountains and wait until meal times to eat.  I know my family usually purchases juices, soft drinks, popcorn, and other snacks throughout the day.

For families like mine, the meal plan can 10%-20%.  If you are very careful with your food and beverage allowance you could spend less than the meal plan costs.  I honestly don't think it would be possible to save enough to warranty a resort upgrade.
