Is there any downside to taking the boat across to the American Pavilion at Epcot for lunch and then traveling counterclockwise to Canada? We plan to do the opposite (America to Mexico) another day. I am worried we would miss Characters Greetings.

Hi Erin! There is absolutely no benefit to walking over taking the boat to the World Showcase. Many families opt to walk the entire circle so they don't miss a thing but the way you have planned your visit this will be an energy saving trip.

By the end of both days you will have visited all the countries, tasted some of the edible treats in each, and perused the stores for some shopping therapy.  By splitting it in two days you will give each country the time that is needed to really explore and enjoy what they offer. Entertainment is scheduled in many of the countries each day and when you arrive at EPCOT  just pick up a Times Guide to see what is happening.  It honestly will not matter what direction you walk so enjoy!
