    We don't plan to get park tickets the day of our arrival since we would only have a few hours free that afternoon. Resort pool isn't a guarantee in January either. Will Downtown Disney keeps our 5 & 8 yo boys entertained for a couple hours that first d

    Hi Matt ~

    My boys love Downtown Disney and its always a must do on our trips. You'll find lots of great shops, restaurants and activities for 5 & 8 year old boys. Here are some that my boys love:

    * T-Rex Café - Be sure to check out the Paleo Dig to dig for fossils and the gift shop.
    * Rainforest Café 
    * LEGO Imagination Center
    * Once Upon a Toy - In addition to toys, Star Wars fans can build their own lightsabers or Droids there.
    * DisneyQuest - (If they are really into video games. I'll warn you though, its loud).
    * Splitsville (bowling)
    * AMC 24 Theaters
    * Marketplace Carousel
    * Marketplace Train Express
    * Characters In Flight (tethered balloon ride)

    If its warm, there are fountains near Once Upon A Toy that kids love to splash around in.

    Downtown Disney is also a fun place to visit during the evening. In the Marketplace Area, there is usually some sort of live music in front of Fulton's Crab House that the whole family can enjoy. Be sure to stop by the Waterside Stage in front of the World of Disney Store. Sometimes they have live performances or a DJ Kids Dance Party.

    You can usually find live music in front of Wetzel's Pretzels on the West Side.

    Just before you head out of the Pleasure Island section towards the West Side, we've often seen "live statutes" and other fun entertainment so be sure to stroll through that area.

    You can pick up a Times Guide at Downtown Disney merchandise and Guest Relations locations that will list some of the Entertainment hours.
