Hello Paul!
Thank you for bringing your question to
planDisney! The new
Disney Genie and Disney Genie+ service is built into the
My Disney Experience mobile app and includes a personalized itinerary creator. When I was in Walt Disney World last week I used the Disney Genie and Disney Genie+ services to help plan my day. It provided the attraction wait times, recommendations for nearby dining, and the option to purchase
Lightning Lane. The
My Disney Experience mobile app also provides the ability to make Mobile Food Orders, which saved me so much time! I was able to order food while I was standing in line and pick it up as soon as I was done with the attraction.
Unfortunately, both of these special features are only available through the My Disney Experience mobile application, which requires a mobile device. Due to the dynamic nature of these applications, which take into account the crowds, wait times, and even weather, they require an active device and they cannot be done ahead of time with a computer. I know this probably isn't what you wanted to hear, but please don't worry, you can still experience the parks without a mobile device. The majority of the attractions, with the exception of
Remy's Ratatouille Adventure which requires you to join the virtual queue via a mobile device, offer stand-by lines. Additionally, many counter-service dining locations still offer the ability to order at the window.
If you want to use the interactive mobile applications in the Walt Disney World parks, consider buying an inexpensive mobile device that doesn't require you to sign up for a monthly service. Using Wi-Fi in the parks, you can connect your mobile device and leverage the Walt Disney World application for Genie+, Mobile Food Ordering, PhotoPass, and more!
I hope you have a magical vacation!
Magically,
Stacy
