I'm so excited to hear you are ready to begin your running journey! And a 5K race with
runDisney is the perfect way to begin. There are currently four 5K races held at Walt Disney World® Resort and four 5K races held at Disneyland® Resort, so there should be no trouble choosing one that is right for you. I believe you can do this, too! Here are some suggestions to help you get started.
• Visit the
runDisney website and select the events tab to see a listing of all current races. Races are generally held in the Fall/Winter months. Chose the event tab of a race weekend that fits into your schedule best. Once you've selected which race you are looking to run, it makes getting motivated to start running much easier.
• Utilize the run/walk method created by the
official runDisney Training Consultant Jeff Galloway. This method is when you alternate running & walking to help stay injury-free. And with your knees not being very cooperative, this method will help you tremendously. Start with just 30 seconds of running and then 30 seconds of walking for about 20 minutes to start.
• Don't forget about the nutritional aspect of your running journey. By implementing tips from the
official runDisney Nutritionist, Tara Gidus, you can run farther, better, faster, stronger.
