Ahoy Andrew!
Welcome aboard, and thanks for asking about the details of your carry-on. Your cruise is almost here, and I love that you’re planning those final logistics and starting to pack. Donald Duck is a true sailor, I like your suitcase style!
Disney Cruise Line tells me that the
carry-on cannot be larger than 22” x 14” x 9”, which yours sounds to be just slightly above that exact measurement on two sides, and less on the third dimension. The constraints on the size are primarily for the security scanner at the port. I imagine you will be fine, as there is some margin and differences in how we each measure our items factored in, and if it fits standard airline requirements that is also in alignment with the rules. However, please know if you bring the suitcase measuring larger than this stated requirement, it very well could be required to be checked at the port and not carried on.
I also advise a different kind of bag than a suitcase for embarkation day as your carry-on. You will have this item with you for a few hours as you explore the ship, as your stateroom may not be ready until mid-late afternoon and it can be cumbersome to carry a suitcase around. There is nowhere to leave this bag unattended, so it must be carried around the ship until your stateroom is available; please be sure whatever bag you select is comfortable and easy to manage. I prefer something to carry rather than on wheels for the varied surfaces onboard. I use a large soft tote bag that will double as my family’s beach bag in ports. I carry on medicine, fragile items,
wine or beer, and our swimsuits for a post-lunch dip before we sail away. Everything else will greet me in my stateroom with my checked luggage later that day.
I tend to over-pack for a cruise, there are so many possibilities to be ready for! This
handy packing checklist is a great way to confirm you’re bringing the bare necessities but leaving enough room for souvenirs and other fun cruise treasures. Please also be mindful of the
Prohibited Items List.
I hope this helps you know what to expect as you begin to gather everything to pack for this wonderful vacation ahead, Andrew! There’s nothing like a
Disney Cruise Line vacation and I can’t wait for you to experience it all.
Please send any other questions our way if we can help reduce stress and make you feel ready for this incredible trip.
Wishing you a practically perfect sailing,
Amy
