We are going to be doing a resort stay the week of 4th of July and was wondering if there were any fun activities not in the parks that night to do? Can you view fireworks from the monorail resorts on 4th of July? Thanks!

    Hiya Shelby!

Welcome to planDisney! Ooooh, what a practically perfect time to stay at Walt Disney World Resort! The 4th of July is pure star-spangled magic around here! And yes, even outside the parks, there’s plenty of patriotic pixie dust to go around.

Now, while the dazzling fireworks are best experienced inside Magic Kingdom and EPCOT, here’s a little local insider sparkle for you: Guests often head to the monorail resort hotels to catch those sky-high spectaculars from a different point of view! Some of the best viewing spots include the beach area at Disney's Polynesian Village Resort, the boat dock at Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, and the observation deck at Disney’s Contemporary Resort (by the fourth-floor concourse or near the marina). These spots offer a picture-perfect view of Happily Ever After, and on the 4th of July, you might just catch those extra bursts of patriotic magic lighting up the sky! Do keep in mind that guests staying at the resorts will have priority access to these spots. I know that in years past, the Poly has roped off the beach and handed out bracelets to ensure resort guests are able to enjoy that sough-after viewing spot.

I also HIGHLY recommend beating the crowds and catching the fireworks the night before! Magic Kingdom’s “Disney's Celebrate America! A Fourth of July Concert in the Sky” is usually scheduled for both the 3rd and the 4th. As the date approaches, check the schedule for the most up-to-date schedule since those are subject to change.

As for resort activities, Disney Resort hotels often roll out special events on the 4th of July, from pool parties with festive games to themed movies under the stars. Exact offerings vary by resort and are typically announced closer to the date, so be sure to check the Recreation Activities Schedule when you arrive, or ask a friendly Cast Member at the front desk.

A little personal pro tip for you! One of my daughter’s favorite things to do is grab a special holiday-themed snack from a resort quick-service spot and have our own mini celebration by the pool or beach area while waiting for the fireworks to begin. Those moments turn out to be just as magical as any park day.

Wishing you a star-spangled, sparkle-filled stay, Shelby. If you need help with more holiday fun ideas, you know where to find us at planDisney!

Sending you red, white, and ear-resistible wishes for your stay! ~Emille
