Hello! We are doing one park hopper day. MK first then HS second. I understand I’d make my first Genie+ choice and purchase my first ILL for MK at 7am. When would I do these things for HS? Just after 7am by changing the park or do I have to wait until 2pm?

Hi Leigh! Welcome to planDisney! It's great to have you stop by with your question!

It sounds like you are planning one epic day at the Walt Disney World Resort! The Magic Kingdom Park and Disney's Hollywood Studios are two jam-packed parks that offer so much in terms of attractions and experiences. Creating a solid plan and utilizing Lightning Lane entrances will be beneficial to have a magical day!

Since these services are still fairly new, let's break down exactly how to use them. For Disney Genie+, you'll be able to make your first selection starting at 7 AM for either park you are visiting on this day. You will also only be able to have one active selection at a time. Even though you are visiting two parks, Disney Genie+ is treated as one service for the day. With the Magic Kingdom being your first park of the day, it would make sense to choose an attraction from this park first. Once you have your first arrival window set, it will depend on what time this reservation is for to determine when you can make another selection. Here are a couple of scenarios with a 9 AM Magic Kingdom opening:

    1. If your first Disney Genie+ reservation is for Splash Mountain at 10 AM, you will then be able to make your next selection after riding this attraction.
    2. If your first Disney Genie+ reservation is for Splash Mountain at noon, you will then be able to make your next selection two hours after the official park opening time (in this case at 11 AM) since your arrival window is more than two hours away.
You can make a Disney Genie+ reservation at Disney's Hollywood Studios at any point throughout the day. Just make sure that the arrival window is after 2 PM since this will be the earliest time you can enter the park. Also keep in mind that when using Disney Genie+, you will only be able to select the next available time slot. I suggest making selections at the Magic Kingdom up until you are about to hop to Hollywood Studios and then check the My Disney Experience App to see what is available on your way over there.

For the Individual Lightning Lane purchases, you can select up to two attractions per day. You'll be able to make your first selection starting at 7 AM if you are staying at a Disney Resorts Hotel or other select hotels. Otherwise, you will need to wait until the official park opening to make these purchases. Currently, Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance and Seven Dwarfs Mine Train are the only attractions at each of these two parks that are available to select. If you want to make an Individual Lightning Lane for both, you'll need to make one for Seven Dwarfs Mine Train first. Once you ride that attraction, you will then need to make one at Hollywood Studios. With Rise of the Resistance being as popular as it is at this time, it is very unlikely that it will be available this late in the day.

My suggestion is to make your Individual Lightning Lane selection for Rise of the Resistance and then start your day at the Magic Kingdom early to hop in line for Seven Dwarfs Mine Train. You'll be able to ride this with a minimum wait time and still have your arrival window for later in the day for Rise of the Resistance.

Leigh, I hope this information helps you on your upcoming trip! Please reach out to me anytime at planDisney with any additional planning questions!

    See ya real soon!
