As a DoD civilian employee, I have qualified for the military discounted sailings the past several years. However, it appears the wording on who qualifies for the military discount has now changed. Are DoD civilian employees still eligible?

    Ahoy, Rachel!

Welcome aboard planDisney! There’s something extra magical about spotting a discounted rate on a Disney cruise—it feels a bit like uncovering King Triton’s hidden treasure chest, only this treasure lets you splurge on Bingo cards, specialty coffees, or that souvenir you told yourself you didn’t need and absolutely bought anyway.

As a military member myself, I completely understand the thrill of finding those special offers. Over the years, I’ve loved that Disney Cruise Line has extended these rates to Department of Defense civilian employees, and I’m glad you're keeping a sharp lookout as the wording shifts. Right now, there are two military-related offers:

    1. The traditional military rate – This is the discount you’ve likely used before—the one that pops up about two to six months before sailing on select itineraries. Since it's tied to availability, not every sailing will offer it, but when it does appear, it's a fantastic way to save some gold doubloons.

    2. The new America’s 250th Anniversary $250 onboard credit – This offer is available for eligible military members sailing on the Disney Wish or Disney Dream in 2026, and it can be applied to both new and existing qualifying reservations. It’s like getting a little “pixie dust refund” straight into your onboard account.

Because the language can feel as twisty as the East Australian Current, I reached out to a wonderful Cast Member at Disney Cruise Line to confirm the details. For the traditional military rate, eligibility still includes U.S. military and eligible branches of the government that support the military, which does include the Department of Defense. So yes—certain civilian employees are still eligible for that offer.

For the $250 onboard credit, the terms don’t specifically call out civilian employees by name, but they rely on the same eligibility criteria as the traditional offer. When booking online, eligible reservations will automatically receive the credit. If you’re calling in to book, I recommend letting the Cast Member know you’d like that offer applied, just to be sure everything sails smoothly.

I hope this helps you feel more confident as you navigate these offers. Just like Moana following the stars, you’re charting the right course—one that leads you straight to adventure, savings, and a whole lot of magic on the high seas.

Sea ya real soon as the tides turn toward thankful hearts and joyful journeys,
    Dustin
