    We have been to Disneyworld 5 times in 5 years but have never gone in the fall. We are planning our 2011 trip and I am not sure whether we should go in mid October or late November/early December. We want to include Halloween or X-mas Party. Any Advice?

    Our family typically chooses to visit in the fall or winter because I like to avoid the summer heat, not to mention the summer crowds. You won't go wrong with either an October trip, focused on tame, fun version of Halloween that isn't bloody or an early December trip that finds not only the parks but the resorts dressed up for Christmas.

    Disney designates mid-October as regular season, which lets you know crowds will be larger than the Value season of late November. So if low crowds make a difference to you, choose the week after Thanksgiving, a typically low-crowd week. Value Season also means hotel prices will be lower than that of a visit in October.

    Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party vs. Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party: To me, the Halloween party is worth the price tag over the Christmas party. Guests dress up in costumes, there's trick-or-treating, and the parade & fireworks are simply more different from the park's regular parade and fireworks. I rarely recommend the Christmas party, as it doesn't offer enough of a difference from a regular night at Magic Kingdom via your regular park ticket. Free hot chocolate and store-bought cookies with a snow-flake or two on Main Street, doesn't equal up to its cost...

    The last appeal of the Christmas season at Disney are the resort decorations. We make time to visit the Deluxe resorts that sport decorations like the life-size gingerbread house at Grand Floridian or the chocolate carousel at the Boardwalk.

    In terms of bang-for-your-buck, I'd have to go with the week after Thanksgiving. But if you enjoy the outdoors, want to make one of the special parties part of your vaction, and are considering a casual resort like the Fort Wilderness cabins, an autumn trip would be lovely.
