Hi, Lisa! Welcome to the Disney Parks Moms Panel.
I am so excited to hEAR that you are
planning your first visit to the Walt Disney World Resort! My son also has autism, and one of the reasons why we love the Walt Disney World Resort so much is that they truly go above and beyond to make the magic accessible to everyone. As you get ready for your trip, I would recommend familiarizing yourself with Walt Disney World's
Services for Guests with Disabilities to learn about the types of accommodations that are available for guests with special needs. I think you might also find this
Guide for Guests with Cognitive Disabilities helpful.
Droid Depot at
Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge has the droids you are looking for. Your son is going to love building his own custom astromech droid!
Reservations for this popular experience can be made up to 180 days in advance and are recommended.
Due to the limited amount of space in the Droid Depot workshop, each person building a droid may have only one guest accompany them. However, I have good news for you, Lisa. The droid building experience takes place within the larger Droid Depot retail shop. There is a waist-high barrier separating the building workshop from the rest of the Droid Depot store. Since only one person will be able to accompany your son while he constructs his droid, I would suggest that the other parent observes from behind the barrier.
If you have any additional questions as you get ready for your magical vacation, please visit us again. See ya real soon!
