Hi Joelle,
Welcome to planDisney and thanks for taking the time to visit us with your question.
I’m happy to hear you’re already planning a trip to “The Happiest Place on Earth” in May! After being closed for over a year, so many people are eager to get back to Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure Park to soak in some much-needed Disney Magic.
As you probably know, when the Disneyland Resort theme parks reopen on April 30, 2021, there will be
several changes in place for the health and safety of all Guests and Cast Members. Guests will need to obtain a park reservation in addition to having valid admission. Capacity and theme park reservations will be limited to promote physical distancing. And until further notice, to comply with current guidelines stipulated by the State of California, only California residents will be allowed to experience the theme parks during its initial reopening phase. Depending on when California updates these guidelines (for example, move to a less restrictive tier based on
Blueprint for a Safer Economy), I am sorry that I cannot provide a definite answer whether your friend from out-of-state will be able to join you in the parks at the end of May. I'm hoping as new Covid cases continue to decrease, Orange County will be able to move to a less restrictive tier soon. Crossing fingers that you and your friend can experience the magic of Disney together!
As this pandemic situation is constantly evolving, so are the updates and changes to park operations. I recommend that you check
Disneyland.com and
Disney Parks Blog regularly for the latest park news. You can also follow
Disney’s social media accounts, including
Twitter and
Instagram, so you don’t miss a thing.

Have a magical day,
