We are going to Disneyland May 19th. We tried to pick a good week to arrive to avoid the big crowds. Hoping this is a good week. How do we find out if there are any events happening and if any rides are closed..?

Hello there Jamie, welcome to planDisney, we're so glad you're here!

How exciting that your trip to the "Happiest Place on Earth" is coming up so soon, the countdown is on!  The best resource to see the entertainment and event schedule as well as any attractions that will be closed for refurbishment will be the hours & events calendar.  This can definitely change all the way up to the date of your trip, so I'd keep checking back as your trip gets closer.

I totally understand that big crowds can be worrisome, but with a bit of preparation, it does not have to be!  I always recommend that you arrive to the parks early to take advantage of the lighter earlier morning crowds.  We usually aim to get to the security gates 30 minutes before they are scheduled to open, and then we are amongst some of the first Guests to line up at the gates of Disneyland Park or Disney California Adventure Park!  The crowds are usually lighter first thing in the morning, so you truly can get some of your priority attractions crossed off your list.  If you are staying at a Disneyland Resort Hotel, you will also have access to early entry, and I'd make sure to have your theme park reservations and starting park correspond with the early entry schedule.

I would also consider purchasing Disney Genie+ Service if you're able to work it into your trip budget.  Disney Genie+ Service does help save valuable time with access to shorter wait times via the Lightning Lane entrances.  Not every attraction has a Lightning Lane, but we purchase the service each visit since we are always trying to maximize our time in the parks.  You can purchase Disney Genie+ Service and book your first Lightning Lane selection in the Disneyland app as soon as you enter the theme parks.

I hope this information is helpful for your upcoming trip, Jamie!  I'm more than happy to help with any other planning questions you may have, so do not hesitate to come back and ask me any other questions.

    Have a magical day!
