Hi we have never been to Disneyland before, will our magic bands work for our room keys there?

Hi there, Rose! Welcome to planDisney!

How awesome is it that you're planning your very first vacation to the Disneyland Resort? Besides, I think I know exactly how you're feeling right now, because I was there once, too! I have always been a Walt Disney World Resort gal, so when I had to plan a visit to the Happiest Place on Earth for the first time in 2019, I was totally lost. The Disneyland Resort is totally different (and amazing!) in its own special way, but I won't spoil any surprises for you. I will say, however, that you're going to feel something totally magical while walking down the original Main Street, U.S.A. With that, let's get started!

At this time, Rose, MagicBands can't be used as Disney Resorts Collection hotel room keys at the Disneyland Resort. In fact, they can't be used for anything! See what I meant when I told you that both Resorts are completely different? In order for you to unlock your hotel room door, you have two very convenient options. Your first option is to do it through the Disneyland app, and your second option is to stop by your hotel's Front Desk and ask for a physical card. Both of these options work just fine, so it really is up to you!

Now, did you really think I would leave you without any surprises? No way! Rose, even though you won't be able to use your old Walt Disney World Resort MagicBands at the Disneyland Resort, the brand-new MagicBand+ will be coming to the Disneyland Resort sometime in 2022. This is awesome, because Guests visiting the Disneyland Resort will be able to interact with the Theme Parks in a whole new different way! Even though I have no way of knowing when the MagicBand+ will make its triumphant debut, I can tell you that you will likely get more information through the Disney Parks Blog when the time comes.

Thank you so much for stopping by with your question, Rose. I hope that your magical Disney vacation is everything you hope for and so much more! Don't forget to eat lots of churros, and please don't hesitate to come back here with any other questions you might have.

    Happy planning,

    Ana Paula
