We are going to Disneyland on January 25 to celebrate my granddaughter’s 16 birthday. I’d like to find out where we could have reservations to a special dinner with cake. Not looking for hamburgers more like a fancy dinner experience.

Hello there, Rita! Welcome to planDisney. We are so glad you've stopped by to ask us a question about your upcoming visit.

A sweet 16 birthday is definitely are reason to celebrate and I think Disneyland is the perfect place! There are celebration cakes that are available at participating restaurants at Disneyland Resort. These Mickey Mouse Celebration Cakes are Mickey-shaped, come in white chocolate or chocolate, and can be engraved to say "Happy Birthday". These cakes can be added to your reservation if you book at least three days in advance. You may also order in person at the host podium, but they may only have a handful of cakes available for day-of orders. At Disneyland Park, the participating restaurants are Blue Bayou Restaurant, Café Orléans, and River Belle Terrace. Over at Disneyland California Adventure Park, they may be available at Lamplight Lounge and Wine Country Trattoria.

If cakes aren't available, there are plenty of fun sweet treats, cupcakes included, at Candy Palace and Jolly Holiday Bakery Cafe that you could bring into the restaurant.

Out of all of the participating restaurants, I would recommend Blue Bayou Restaurant. This is a very exciting location where you feel like you are dining outside along the bayou and you will see Guests starting their voyage on Pirates of the Caribbean. This also means it's one of the most popular locations to dine, so getting an advanced dining reservation can be tough. I definitely recommend keeping your eye on the reservations page and checking frequently. I've been known to get some great last-minute reservations the night before or the day of! Don't worry if you don't get them in advance. You can also try walking up to the host podium the day of and seeing if there is any room for you that day. I recommend getting there a few minutes before they open, so keeping your plans open to possibly a birthday lunch will help your chances.

If you are going to be in Disney California Adventure Park, my favorite restaurant is Lamplight Lounge which is a very fun atmosphere and great food. I've been able to get reservations the same day by walking up and putting my name on the list.

Don't forget to stop by City Hall to grab her a complimentary birthday button to kick off the birthday celebration.

Rita, thanks again for stopping by. I hope your granddaughter has a magical 16th birthday at The Happiest Place on Earth. See you real soon!
