I am going to Disneyland for the first time this April! I know that a couple rides will be closed, but am worried other rides I want to do like Big Thunder will be too. How far in advance are closures announced so I can go in April with a non worried mind?

    Hello William!

Welcome to planDisney, and thank you for contacting us with your question. I'm very excited that you will be visiting Disneyland Resort for the first time! There are so many things to do at Disneyland Resort. For a first visit, I suggest prioritizing 3-5 things that you want to accomplish, while allowing yourself time to soak in the atmosphere. It is truly a magical destination!

A list of attractions closed for refurbishment can usually be found in the Hours and Events Calendar about six weeks in advance. The calendar also includes park hours, entertainment schedules, and other information to help you maximize your time and fun during your visit. I like to check out the calendar ahead of time to plan my family's activities each day.

Although we don't yet know if any attractions will be closed during your visit, I do know that one of my favorite special events will be taking place then - the Disney California Adventure Food & Wine Festival! The Festival goes from March 1 through April 22, 2024. There will be a variety of Beverage Education & Tasting Seminars, as well as plenty of locally-inspired food and drinks to sample throughout Disney California Adventure Park. Last year, my favorite sweet treat was the Mickey Mouse Shaped Macaron made with SNICKERS®. I may have gone back for seconds (and thirds)!

William, I really appreciate that you stopped by planDisney! I hope you have a wonderful first trip to my Happiest Place on Earth!
