Hiya, Barbi Jo!
Welcome to planDisney! I'm happy to be your planEAR today, and it's also my pleasure to help a fellow Texan!
You are asking about two of my favorite subjects,
Disney Dining + Disney Parks History! The History of the Citrus Swirl and Orange Bird is that they were both products of a partnership between the Florida Orange Growers Association and Walt Disney World Resort in the late 70s early 80s. Once the partnership ended, so too did both the snack and this adorable little mascot. However, both were brought back to Walt Disney World in the early 2010s and have been loved ever since.
While
the Citrus Swirl is a distinctly Walt Disney World Resort treat not available on the West Coast and there isn't an Orange Bird mural at Disneyland Resort, we sometimes get lucky at Walt's original theme park and receive Orange Bird merchandise in the bigger shops like
World of Disney in the
Downtown Disney District and the
Emporium in
Disneyland Park. You can even shop most of the
Orange Bird merch on ShopDisney.com!
If you're craving an ice creamy cold treat with a sweet, fruity taste,
your best bet at Disneyland Resort will be a classic Pineapple Dole Whip. These can be found at the
Tiki Juice Bar as well as the
Tangaroa Terrace Tropical Bar & Grill. But if you're really looking to mix or spice (or both) things up, head over to
The Tropical Hideaway where you'll be able to find other flavors of Dole Whip, like Watermelon or Mango. You can enjoy these flavors on their own or swirl them together. You can even add a packet of Tanjin, which is a seasoning blend of dried chili peppers, lime, and salt, to really add some zest to this 'zert! And while she's no Orange Bird, Rosita, who has long been missing from
Walt Disney's Enchanted Tiki Room has her own private perch near the checkout stand hEAR.
I'm so sorry that the specific snack and cute character you were seeking aren't available at The Happiest Place on Earth, Barbi Jo. Be sure to keep up with the
Disney Parks Blog as they'll soon announce the special Halloween Time treats, sweets, and eats you can expect to find during your visit. And don't forget to follow the
official planDisney Panel Instagram account where we share all kinds of in-park tips and tricks. Thank you again so much for stopping by, Barbi Jo. And if you have any more Disneyland Resort vacation planning questions, We're All Ears!
