Is Disneyland any closer to being able to utilize Magic Bands?

    Hiya Michael!

Welcome to planDisney! We're so glad that you found us hEAR!

Oh boy! This is such a great question, and it's especially fitting as Mickey's other house, Walt Disney World Resort in Florida, just rolled out the launch of MagicBand+ this last week! Watching some of my panel pals share their experiences with the new colorful bracelets reminds me of the old 'glow with the show' ears from yEARs ago!

At this time we sadly don't have any information or actual dates of when (or where!) we can expect MagicBand+ technology to roll out at Disneyland Resort. However, the nugget of news that MagicBand+ was coming to Mickey's original house was announced last yEAR at the Destination D23: A Fan-Tastic Disney Celebration, and I bet we hEAR more updates at this yEARs convention in early September. Be sure to keep your eyes and ears peeled to the Disney Parks Blog or the official Disney Parks Instagram account for all of the updates from the multi-day event!

In the meantime, I'm happy to share that most of the functionality of Disney World's MagicBands can be replicated at Disneyland Resort through your Disneyland Mobile App. MagicBands at Walt Disney World can serve as your Theme Park Admission Ticket, capture your Disney PhotoPass photos, and allow you to scan in for your Disney Genie+ Lightning Lane and Individual Lightning Lane selections, all of which can be done with the Disneyland App. However, the thing I'm most excited about finding out is if Guests staying at a Disneyland Resort Hotel can use their bands to charge meals and shopping purchases back to the credit card on file connected to their room, as well as open their room door, like at Walt Disney World Resort. I guess we'll both hEAR really soon!

I'm so sorry, Michael, that I didn't have a better more definitive answer for you today, but I really appreciate you stopping by! Be sure to follow the official planDisney Panel Instagram account for all kinds of insider tips and tricks. And if you have any more Disneyland Resort vacation planning questions, We're All Ears!
