Does Disneyland close the park or shut down ride if it rains?

    Hey Teresa!

We’re so glad you found us here at the Disney Parks Moms Panel! We’re happy to help you with your question.

I see you’re planning a trip to the Happiest Place on Earth and wondering about the weather. While we don’t get as much rain as other places around the world, we can get some heavy storms here in Southern California. Since its opening, the Disneyland Resort parks have closed less times than I can count on one hand for any reason. You’ll be happy to hear that none of those times were because of rain. While the parks don’t stay closed because of the rain, I have seen them close early for the day when the rain has been heavier than normal. And even so, we're talking 2-3 hours early. As for the rides, most of them stay open during rain. Depending on how heavy the rain is, rides can open and close throughout the day. Those types of decisions are made in the moment and impossible to predict ahead of time.

Going to Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure Park in the rain is one of my favorite times to go. If we have the opportunity to go in the rain we take it! You’ll almost always experience shorter wait times on attraction when rain is expected for most of the day. There are plenty of attractions that are enclosed and will almost never close in the rain like Star Tours- The Adventures Continue, Toy Story Midway Mania! or Space Mountain just to name a few. Make sure you bring a rain jacket, an umbrella and rain boots and you’ll be good to go! If you need to bring a stroller, I'd recommend purchasing a stroller rain cover as well.

Well Teresa, I hope the next time it rains in Sunny Southern California you head straight for the parks!

Remember, always believe in the magic!
