What can I use in Disneyland besides a magic band? I have one but spending so much for my family to get them for 2 days does not seem cost efficient. Also, can the magic band I used in WDW be used at Disneyland?

    Hi Alyssa,

Thanks for visiting planDisney! I'm happy to help clarify how MagicBands work at Disneyland in comparison to Disney World.

Good news! If you have a MagicBand+ that you use at Disney World, it is also compatible with Disneyland. I actually just got back from a Disney World trip, and I was using my Disneyland MagicBand+. It was great—at Disney World, you can use your MagicBand+ to make purchases (with a linked payment card) and to unlock your hotel room door.

Here at Disneyland, you can use your MagicBand+ for three main things:

Park Entry: You can link your MagicBand+ to your ticket through the Disneyland app. I do this for both myself and my little one. She loves her Lion King-themed MagicBand+ and enjoys scanning herself into the park.

Lightning Lane: You can use your MagicBand+ to redeem your Lightning Lane reservations. There are scanners at the entrance of the Lightning Lane where you can either scan your park ticket or tap your MagicBand+.

PhotoPass: When you take a photo with any Disney PhotoPass photographer, you can easily scan your MagicBand+ to link the pictures to your account. Just remember that you'll need to purchase the photos individually, or get your photos included with the purchase of Lightning Lane, PhotoPass One Day+, or PhotoPass One Week+ packages.

I’ve seen many people get by without a MagicBand+ at Disneyland, so don’t feel pressured to buy one for everyone in the family. However, since they are compatible with Disney World, they can make fun souvenirs for the whole family!

Alyssa, I hope this information is helpful. You and your family are going to have an amazing time! I hope you'll be able to enjoy all the exciting things coming to the Disneyland Resort in 2025. This year marks the 70th anniversary of Disneyland, so there are some amazing new experiences on the way. If you have any other questions or need help planning, feel free to reach out to me or one of my fellow panelists—we’d be happy to share our insights.

    Wishing you a magical trip!
