Hi there, Roseanne! Welcome to planDisney!
I remember a few years ago when DisneyBand+ was announced: it was like a dream come true for me! I always wished that I could use my MagicBand on board my Disney cruise, and have the ease with which I do things in the Disney Theme Parks transfer over. Then, one day, it did! But to make it even more awesome, Disney took it one step further and made it so that the same band could be used in both the Disney Parks
and on board Disney Cruise Line, and thus, DisneyBand+/MagicBand+ was born!
Yes, the same DisneyBand+ could also be used as a MagicBand+ in the Disney Theme Parks. DisneyBand+ and MagicBand+ are essentially the same thing. In fact, I also have only one
MagicBand+ that I use in both places. For this question, though, I’ll be referring to it as DisneyBand+, but you may absolutely use your MagicBand+ on board, as I do. You may also
purchase a DisneyBand+ either from the Disney Cruise Line website or on board your Disney cruise and then use it in a Disney Theme Park after your cruise.
On board your Disney cruise, you can
use DisneyBand+ to open your stateroom door, pay for items that you purchase on board, tap at photo locations, check kids out of Disney’s Oceaneer Club, and/or “it’s a small world” nursery! if that applies to your reservation, and interact with any of the immersive and interactive experiences, such as during the Deck Parties and Fireworks at Sea.
I love that I get to be hands-free and lanyard-free on board. However, I highly recommend
charging your DisneyBand+ nightly. This way, it’s always ready to go every single morning, for a full day of magic ahead. If it ever needs to be charged and you can't use it, you can always use your
Key to the World Card to do the same tasks as DisneyBand+.
Roseanne, I hope I was able to offer clarification. I wish you the most magical memories on board your cruise! Please sail back to planDisney if you have any other questions.
Seas the Adventure,
Rana
