I have NEVER been to DIsney, I have a 3 yr old boy and a 5 year old boy. I am completely overwhelmed with all of the options and places to go. This trip is totally for them, where should we take them? Stay? Eat? We are thinking 3 or 4 days on a budget

    Leigh:

I've got a family of six, so Disney on a budget is usually on my mind. Here are my tips:

    • Go during Value Season. You can reduce your costs by visiting roughly mid-January to mid-February, mid-August through September, mid-November through mid-Decemer, except Thanksgiving week. The savings might even allow you to upgrade from a Value hotel to a Moderate hotel.
    • Choose a Value Resort. For the price for a family of 4, the name 'Value' fits the bill. You don't need large accommodations with two youngsters and staying on property saves you parking each day. Aso, if you fly, Disney will pick you up from the airport and return you for free. For your family, I recommend All-Star Movies. I don't know many boys who wouldn't love to stand beside the stories-tall Buzz Lightyear for picture for the grandparents!
    • Choose the One-Park-a-Day Ticket. Choose one park a day to visit and do it well. The Park Hopper upgrade at $52 plus tax per person is not the best way to spend $220 for a family on a budget. I promise your children will not get bored and need to go to another park and the day you go to Animal Kingdom (it closes early), I recommend enjoying your pool or splurging on a Character Meal.
    • Choose a few special meals. Try Chef Mickey's, Crystal Palace, Coral Reef or Cape May, opting for late breakfast seatings that can pass for lunch or early lunches where dinner fare is the same, but much more economical. (Note that not all of these offer lunch.)
If you book now, you should be able to take advantage of several Disney offers here.  You can either consider free dining or the Kids Stay Free offer. Price each out to see your best savings.

    Wishing y'all a magical vacation!

My family of 6 appreciates Disney's value! Although Ft. Wilderness is our second home, we've enjoyed the resorts for business, reunions and romantic getaways. For me, Disney also means dining: last count, I'd eaten at 55 restaurants around the World! Learn More About Whitney
