Hi there Karen and welcome to planDisney!
That's an excellent question; as someone who tends to carry a bag with them into the Theme Parks and likely to have assorted items in my pockets, I have definitely had past experiences at other amusement parks where you're required to pass through a metal detector screening device, be scanned with a wand and directed to place loose or metal items in a locker in order to ride. I'm currently at
Disney's Hollywood Studios and it occurred to me that I've never had to deal with passing through a metal detector in order to enjoy any of the
rides or attractions at Walt Disney World Resort.
Currently, there are no Walt Disney World rides that require you to pass through a metal detector before you board. However, the answer to your question is technically both yes and no in this case; while none of the rides or attractions have their own metal detector to pass through as you enter the queue, each guest is still required to pass through one at the
security entrance of every Theme Park and
Disney Springs. (The only exception to this can be found at
the Water Parks, which currently do not have any metal detectors for guests to pass through at all.)
There are however rides that may require you to stow your items, like
Kali River Rapids at Disney's Animal Kingdom Theme Park or the new
TRON Lightcycle / Run at Magic Kingdom Park. In fact, our planDisney friends
Matt,
Sam and
Raquel recently got the chance to
experience the newest ride before it opened on the planDisney Podcast and discussed the process to use the new handy design of these lockers before they boarded.
We hope to see you back at planDisney soon
