Well, howdy there, Aaron! I'm sure glad you saddled up on Old Betsy and meandered over to our little Fort planDisney! It's not often in "these here parts" that we get a question from a huge fan of Davy Crockett-"half horse, half alligator, and a little touched with snappin' turtle." While I'm not old enough to remember when his TV show first aired, I am old enough to remember when it aired as reruns on The Wonderful World of Disney and kids in the neighborhood would wear their coonskin hats!
While many Davy Crockett attractions and references have disappeared over time at Walt Disney World Resort, I can still point you to a few places to experience the "Davy, Davy Crockett, king of the wild frontier" vibe.
First up, I suggest we "mosey" on over to Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort and stop at
Crockett's Tavern. Not only can you rustle up some grub, but also take note of the detailed decorations that pay homage to our backwoods friend. While you're there, there's a little hidden gem called Crockett's Craft Corner. This experience only takes place on Tuesday afternoons. You'll be able to paint a rustic wood sign with light food and beverages included. If you are interested, I recommend calling
Tours & Recreation as soon as possible, as spots are limited. Additionally, at Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort, you can explore
Tri-Circle-D Ranch. Here, you'll find horseback riding and horse-drawn carriage rides through the beautiful woods!
Now, let's giddy up over to Magic Kingdom into Frontierland. Our first stop is
Big Al's, an outdoor kiosk across from Country Bear Jamboree. From coonskin caps and cowboy hats, you'll want to check out their provisions. Another stop would be lunch at
Pecos Bill Tall Tale Inn and Cafe. While I haven't looked "fer it" in a while, I have seen memorabilia from Davy Crockett hanging on the walls. A picture there, with your Davy Crockett hat, would make for a great keepsake! Aaron, I hope you'll have time to wander Frontierland and find a few hidden nods to Davy Crockett that I haven't found yet.
Aaron, I'm so glad your question took me on a nostalgic journey! Thank you! You are only a few days away from your trip to The Most Magical Place on Earth, and I hope you have the best vacation!
