I will be going to Disney World May 12-19 and I will have my own car, just wondering if I should get the meal plan or would it be better to just go get our own food? Like get stuff from the store to keep in our room. It's me my husband and 2 kids going.

Hi Kelly! Having your own car will definitely give you more options when planning your meals on vacation.  When deciding if Disney's Dining Plan is right for you, consider your budget and what type of dining you would like to do while visiting.  Every part of Disney World is created to completely immerse you into a world of magic and Disney's dining is as much fun as the attractions themselves.
I suggest using the dining plan if your budget allows.  If you like dining with your favorite princesses or the big cheese himself it can be very convenient and potentially save you money.  The Regular Dining Plan allows for 1 Table Service Credit, 1 Quick Service Credit, 1 Snack Credit per a night of your stay and they also throw in a  refillable mug to use at your resort.  Having your own car will really come in handy when dining at other resorts. Just make a copy of your reservations to show them at the front gate.
Having your own car will make it easy to fix your own meals, but the drawbacks are that you will spend a lot of time traveling to your resort for meals, the refrigerators in the rooms are not large enough to hold lots of food and your meals cannot be heated unless you are staying at a resort with a kitchenette.  A good way to decide if the dining plan is right for you is to check out the menus at allears.net or wdwinfo.com.  The menus will show you the most recent updates and the prices for each restaurant. Using this will help you to compare and decide if it is worth the expense of the dining plan based on your preferences. Let me know if I can help you with anymore planning questions you may have.
