I will be going to Disney World with my husband and our two children ages 5 and 1 and a half. What is the best (by best I mean with activities at or near the hotel) for the youngest one?

    Hi Margaret!

With very young children, you will probably be spending most of your time in the Magic Kingdom.  Thus I recommend staying in a Magic Kingdom Resort.  My favorite resort at Walt Disney World is the Wilderness Lodge, which is a Magic Kingdom Resort, but it sits on Bay Lake and not on the monorail line.  I recommend staying on the monorail line for easy access to your hotel room; that will probably be very important with a very young child.  It makes it a lot easier to take a break, take a nap, etc.  The best monorail resort is the Polynesian in my opinion; children love it's theming as well.  You can even walk from the Polynesian to the Epcot monorail line at the Transportation and Ticket Center; thus, in some sense, the Polynesian has easy access to both the Magic Kingdom and Epcot.

That said, the most fun I've ever seen a one year old have was my cousin's baby and it occurred at the Beach Club.  The Beach Club is an Epcot area resort and it shares the best pool on property with the Yacht Club.  Stormalong Bay is a sand bottom pool divided into three sections.  The section for young children actually have a sand island in the middle of it.  I watched my cousin's baby play in that pool (really on the sand island) all afternoon, and she didn't want to leave!

Good luck with your decision and write back with more specific questions!
