Surf's up, JoAnna!
Welcome back to planDisney and thanks for sliding in with your question about the wonderful
water parks at Walt Disney World Resort! Visiting the Disney water parks is one of my favorite things to do on a "non-theme park" day - there's nothing more relaxing than floating along a lazy river on a warm Florida afternoon! It looks like your trip to The Most Magical Place on Earth is just around the riverbend - are you counting down the days yet!?
I've spent lots of time at both
Disney's Blizzard Beach water park and
Disney's Typhoon Lagoon water park and I'm happy to share my experiences with you. JoAnna, Disney's Typhoon Lagoon water park will be
reopening on March 19, 2023 - cowabunga! At that time, Disney's Blizzard Beach water park will close for refurbishment and a reopening date hasn't been released yet. However, if both water parks happen to be open during your visit, you'll be able to "hop" between both water parks on the same splash-tastic day!
JoAnna, the theming is the biggest difference between the two Disney water parks. The types of attractions featured and dining options offered are very similar between Disney's Typhoon Lagoon water park and Disney's Blizzard Beach water park. (For example, you can easily find a warm Mickey-shaped Pretzel at both locations!) Both water parks feature thrilling attractions, group raft rides, play areas for little ones, lazy rivers, and large wading pools. JoAnna, in my opinion, Disney's Blizzard Beach water park is best for little ones and Guests looking for the "thrill," and Disney's Typhoon Lagoon water park is best for adults and those preferring to "chill."
Summit Plummet at Disney's Blizzard Beach water park will take you for a wet and wild ride down a near-vertical drop! If lounging leisurely is more your speed, then the outskirts of the
Typhoon Lagoon Surf Pool (the largest wave pool in North America!) are a great place to soak up the sun. As someone who enjoys a slower-paced water park day, I'm happy to grab an inner tube and take in the tropical views and lush foliage while floating along
Castaway Creek!
Whichever water park you choose to visit, I encourage you to pick up a Water Park Refillable Sipper from one of the quick-service dining locations. It'll keep you hydrated all day during your fun in the sun and make a great souvenir to commemorate your first Disney water park visit! JoAnna,
Mobile Food & Beverage Ordering is available at all of my favorite dining locations at Disney's Typhoon Lagoon water park and it really adds convenience to mealtimes. When I'm not using the My Disney Experience mobile app to order snacks, sips, and sweets, I keep my mobile device in a
rented locker near the water park entrance.
JoAnna, I'm wishing you a fantastic first visit to the Disney water parks! If you have any additional planning questions, feel free to stop by planDisney again anytime. "Water" you waiting for!?
Adventure awaits,
Lauren
