Does Disney have any rules that a young adult cannot drive a scooter in the park or onto transportation like the bus or monorail? I don’t want to have it there and someone give me a hard time with him driving it.

Hey there, Melissa! Welcome to planDisney. I am so glad you stopped by on your way to the Most Magical Place on Earth.

There are several types of scooters, so I hope that by covering a few bases, I will have given you the information you need.

The Walt Disney World Resort property rules prohibit recreational scooters.

Scooters and Electric Conveyance Vehicles (ECVs) needed for mobility are permitted as long as they meet a few criteria.

    • The mobility device must have three or more wheels.
    • It must be able to maintain stability and balance when it is stopped, unpowered or unoccupied.
    • The mobility device can be manually or electrically powered and must be operated at a walking pace.
    • Devices should have only a single rider.
    • They cannot exceed 36" in width and 52" in length.

Guests must be 18 or older to rent and operate the rented ECV at Walt Disney World. Guests under the age of 18 are welcome to use their own devices that meet the requirements or take advantage of wheelchair rentals offered at the theme parks.

Most Disney Transportation offers accommodations that make traversing Walt Disney World easy no matter your level of mobility. There are no restrictions that would prohibit a young adult from driving a mobility device to board a bus or the Disney Monorail. On the buses, you do need to wait for the driver to assist the Guest. Typically, I have seen them take control of maneuvering the scooter or provide clear directions as they are really familiar with the safety systems and how the scooter needs to be situated to be secured in place.

I sense from your question you have some apprehension. I hope knowing the policies gives you some comfort. If you have any other questions, Melissa, please come back to planDisney. We are here for you!
