Is Disney going to require children under 12 to wear masks at indoor facilities?

Hi William! Welcome back to planDisney.

I see that your Walt Disney World Resort vacation is coming up in just a few weeks, and I know your family is getting so excited! My family creates a paper chain when we are 28 days away from arrival day, and we each write things we cannot wait to do inside the links. Then, each day after dinner, we take one link off the chain and one of our Mouseketeers reads what's written inside. It's so much fun to get hyped up about our very favorite attractions and experiences!

As the phased reopening of the Walt Disney World Resort continues, operational guidance is changing in response to the latest public health advice. You may read the most up-to-date guidance on the Returning to a World of Magic webpage. As of June 15, 2021, the latest guidance is that face coverings are optional for fully vaccinated Guests in most areas. Guests who are not vaccinated, which includes children who are not yet eligible to receive the vaccine, must wear face coverings indoors except when dining, and upon entering and throughout all attractions. This applies to theaters as well. All Guests, regardless of vaccination status, must wear approved face coverings on Disney transportation. You can find the guidance, as well as a helpful chart, on the Face Coverings section of the website.

My family's chain has just a few links left because we head to Walt Disney World later this week. My son is under 12 and therefore is not vaccinated, so we have decided to wear masks alongside him in situations where they are required. We stocked up on a bunch of cute Disney-themed face coverings and, since he wore masks at school this past year, he is comfortable and ready to do his part to keep fellow Guests and Cast Members safe.

William, the guidance is subject to change at any time, so I recommend reading the Disney Parks Blog for updates and news as you count down to your visit. The Returning to a World of Magic webpage will continue to be kept up-to-date. Here at planDisney, we're happy to answer any questions you have as you get ready for your summer vacation at the Walt Disney World Resort!

    Wishing you a magical vacation,
