Has Disney released if they are doing 24 hours open for Leap Day?

    Howdy Alex!

Oh boy, what a fun opportunity for me to dig into some Disney Parks history! I certainly remember the special event “One More Disney Day” in 2012 and am excited to think ahead to what’s possible in 2024, our next leap year. A leap year is a special once-every-four-years occasion and in 2024 we’ll see the rare and elusive bloom of February 29 on the calendar again. Nothing has been announced yet for this unique occasion in 2024, but let’s review what has occurred before and see where to catch any upcoming news together.

An extra day is a gift, a bit of magic. As our friend Quasimodo longingly sings, “give me one day out there!” In 2012, One More Disney Day was an extra day of magic in which Magic Kingdom Park and Disneyland were each open for 24 hours straight. Similar special events in May of 2013 and 2014 brought additional days of all-night fun to the theme parks on both coasts. While the 24-hour events have not returned, there have been special ways to commemorate February 29th in both 2016 and 2020 through PhotoPass offerings and extra sprinkles of magic throughout the day at the theme parks.

If there is an announcement about a new special event for February 29, 2024 you can be sure that official Disney Parks will share it first! Please keep an eye on the Disney Parks Blog, Disney Parks on Instagram, and of course our fun planDisney account for any breaking news of how to spend an extra day celebrating in the parks. Keep an eye on the hashtag #ExtraDayforMagic, which was used in 2020 to promote special activities to honor this magical day.

Disney offers routine ways to extend the magic through Early Entry, Extended Evening Theme Park Hours, and special After Hours Events if you ever wish to add these to your vacation plans – you don’t have to wait four years for these special opportunities to continue the fun!

Even without an official celebration, I say Leap Day is a cause for making the most of this gift of time in February, Alex. As you continue to put your Walt Disney World Resort vacation details together, please don’t hesitate to ask us how to plan a perfect dining reservation, maximize your time on attractions, or hunt for an amazing snack.

Wishing you a new year FULL of magic!
