Hi Robin!
Thanks for sailing back to the Disney Parks Moms Panel! Since you're inquiring about marine life found while sailing aboard Disney Cruise Line, you must be getting ready to embark on a Disney Cruise! I remember one cruise looking out into the ocean and seeing a school of dolphins jumping in and out of the water right next to the ship! It was such an amazing and unexpected moment.
You asked a great question regarding Disney Cruise Line's policies on handling any marine life that isn't part of a guided tour. I called the agents at Disney Cruise Line and asked to see what the guidelines are regarding the interaction with animals in (and around) the sea. They said that you may take as many photos as you want, but it would be best when you see a starfish under water to not touch it and leave it in the water. The ocean is Nemo's home! As visitors, we should enjoy the beauty of him and his friends, but try not to touch them unless on a guided tour.
One of my favorite ways to get the best view of the marine life is by snorkeling! If your itinerary makes a stop at
Disney's private island, Castaway Cay, I suggest bringing your own snorkel equipment or
renting your gear on the island for a day of incredible snorkeling! I recommend taking an underwater camera to take pictures of all the beauty under the sea!
