Can I use my Disney points on a Disney cruise?

Ahoy there, Misti, and thanks for dropping us a line at planDisney!

Aye, this question had me scratching my head a bit, and I'll admit this was a difficult one to get to the bottom of - maybe me maps were drawn by a different Captain!

After scouring the globe an' talking with the bilge rats, I've come up with two possible answers for ye! So please allow me to chart two different courses for you as you prepare to embark:

To chart our first course, when I hear "points" and "Disney" put in the same sentence, I usually think Disney Vacation Club! While I have yet to set sail on THAT particular type of Disney adventure, I know that reservations on Disney Cruise Line using Disney Vacation Club points usually be handled on the Disney Vacation Club side through Disney Experiences. Over at the Disney Vacation Club site, you should also be able to see a rate card that will tell you how many points a particular cruise would require!

If that be the  case, and you're a card-carryin' Disney Vacation Club member looking to use yer points, I'd suggest headin' over to the Disney Vacation Club website or calling a Disney Vacation Club Guide to determine how best to proceed!

The second option, which me parrot insisted we check, was ye saying ye already made a reservation! Polly kept saying "Disney Rewards Dollars" over and over - does that ring any bells? If so, I've got good news - we just so happened to have a stowaway from the Disney Rewards program aboard! The last thing I heard from him before he walked the pla...er... went ashore, was that currently, you can redeem Disney Rewards Dollars on Disney Cruise Line for what they refer to as "all vacations booked through disneycruiseline.com!" Nice chap, great at whistling while swabbing the deck, I was sad to see him go...

Now from his journal, it looks like to redeem Disney Rewards Dollars, ye'll have to log into somethin' called a "Disney Rewards account," link it with the Disney account you made the cruise reservation under, and then request your Disney Rewards Redemption Card. From there, it looks like ye can use yer redemption card as ye would a credit or debit card to make payments toward yer reservation at the Disney Cruise Line website! Oh, and don't be forgettin' to send for yer redemption card at least three weeks before yer vacation or when ye'll be wantin' to use it! That bit o' fine print seems important, savvy?

Whew, that was a lot of map readin' and a little bit o' fancy sailin' we haven't done 'round these parts in quite an age...this humble pirat...er...Captain, thanks ye for the opportunity to flex his muscles and take the helm again.

Misti, I hope X marks the spot, and we've hit the mark! If ye come up with other questions, please sail our way again at planDisney. We'll climb to the crow's nest and keep a weather eye out for yer colors!

Fair winds and following seas to ye!
